Official Opening Of The Malacca Port Office Complex

On this day in 1965, the Malacca Port Office Complex was officially opened by the Deputy Prime Minister, The Most Honourable Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.  The office complex cost $653,000, and it housed the offices of Customs, Immigration, Fisheries, Marine and the Port Health Department.  The offices were more spacious and comfortable in the new building enabling the departments to improve their services to the public.  Locating the Customs, Immigration, Fisheries and Marine Departments in the same office complex was more convenient for the public.  Among the guests of honour in the official opening ceremony of the Malacca Port Office Complex were the Chief Minister of Malacca, The Most Honourable Mr. Ghafar Baba; the Minister of Public Works, Post and Telecoms, The Honourable Dato V.T. Sambathan; the Minister of Transport, The Honourable Dato’ Sardon Jubir and the Minister of Health, the Honourable Mr. Bahaman Shamsuddin.  It was hoped that the opening of the Malacca Port Office Complex that housed several important departments would see an improvement in services provided, especially to the people of Malacca.
