Sinopsis Video
The National Stadium or Stadium Negara is the first covered multi-purpose stadium in Malaysia. The idea for its building was conceived and born of the desire of Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1959 for the country to possess a stadium modeled after Earl’s Court in London. Regarded as the finest stadium in South-East Asia at the time, the National Stadium is reflective of the nation’s modern architectural and engineering landscape. Built at a cost of RM34 million, it was designed by the then Director of the Public Works Department, Tan Sri Stanley Jewkes Edward. The first sports event to be held there was the Asian Badminton Championships on 21 April 1962. The most memorable of these events was the Thomas Cup Badminton Championship in 1992 when the national badminton team emerged the winners.
