Kapal Diraja Tunku Abdul Rahman is the first submarine owned by Malaysia. The submarine is named in honour of Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia. The Scorpene submarine was purchased by the Malaysian government for use of the Royal Malaysian Navy. It was purchased from the DCNS, a naval defense Company in France. The process of acquiring KD Tunku Abdul Rahman took 7 years from 2002 to 2009. Toulon, France on July 11, 2009, arriving at Port Klang on 3 September 2009 after travelling 6000 nautical miles. Led by Commander Zulhelmi Ithnin\sailed back home on a voyage that lasted 55 days. The arrival of KD Tunku Abdul Rahman arrival was greeted by Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di – Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin , the Sultan of Selangor His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Prime Minister Dato ' Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak , Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Defence Minister Dato ' Seri Zahid Hamidi , Deputy Defense Minister and other Ministers. With the purchase of KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) has acquired high-tech military technology which covers navigation systems, communication equipment and warfare systems.
